Swap the traditional urn for unique modern design.

Our memorial creations redefine remembrance and rethink what it looks like to display a loved ones ashes in the home. Our pieces allow for the creation of personal art that encapsulate the essence of your loved one as an individual.

about us

Born and bred in a family home on the Gold Coast, Ash to Art has been inspired by the love, life and loss that surrounds us everyday.
We make art, pendants and jewellery influenced by memories and crafted from ashes.
We are people who have experienced the joy of love and the heartbreak of loss and we understand the desire to always keep a piece of a loved one close.

Our pieces are uniquely intimate; they express love, hold memories and celebrate the loved ones who are no longer with us.
When you allow ashes to be crafted into something you can see and touch, they become a physical representation of the lives we miss dearly and cherish deeply.

We commit to never mass producing, or providing anything less than a bespoke service.
Our pieces are always hand made locally, using ashes of your loved one, combined with high quality materials to craft a truly personal piece that is uniquely yours.
We are passionate about embracing the messy moments of life and repurposing them so they can bring joy.
We are restoring life to what has been deemed lifeless and we cannot wait to share it with you.

ashes Information

You may have noticed that the colour of our creations vary from piece to piece. This is actually because the ashes themselves, range in colour and texture with each person and/or pet.

Cremated remains consist of bone fragments that are left over after the process of cremation. Those fragments are then ground to a dusty powder, into what we know as ashes. While some ashes yield a coarser finish, usually we expect to see a texture that is similar to sand.

When it comes to the colour, we typically see anything from pearly white all the way through to charcoal hues. Light to dark grey is most common, and occasionally we see warm brown tones as well.

Most experts agree that the final colour of ashes depends on the chemical components present in the body, and how they react to different temperatures. At 300℃, organic compounds begin to carbonize and turn dark. Then at 760℃, cremains will be blackened, however, once the temperature reaches 800℃, residual calcium and phosphorus react and start changing to light grey or white.

The unique qualities of ashes just adds to the beauty of our pieces. Each and every creation is wonderfully different and, just like your loved one, is absolutely one of a kind.

can i choose the colour of my creation?

No. We don’t add any dyes or pigments to alter the colour of our creations. the colour and finish comes from the ashes, making every piece 100% unique. this is what we love about our art and we think that ashes give a beautiful finish all on their own,

do i have enough ashes for a creation?

Depending on your wishes, we will try to use as much or as little ashes as possible. obviously, our smaller pieces of jewellery will only require about a tablespoon of ashes to create, making them a perfect option for people who wish to scatter the rest, or share between family.
if you wanted to have all of your ashes in a single piece, our picture frames and custom commissions offer a good way to achieve this.

what happens if there are ashes left over?

Any remaining ashes are returned to you with your finished piece.

Can I have a custom design?

Yes, we do offer custom commissions. Commissioned pieces are individually quoted so please contact us with your ideas!
